The Top 5 Bars in Verona...for a beer UPDATED JUNE 2019

6/23/2019

Comments

Full of beautiful enoteca and surrounded by lush vineyards, Verona is really a wine-drinking city.

But sometimes, especially in the hot summer months, wine just doesn't quite hit the spot.

Here are some of my favourite places to enjoy a decent pint, watch the match or just hang out.
No. 1. The Celtic Pub, via Santa Chiara

A snug little bar not far from the city centre that serves the best pint in Verona. Perfect for watching the footie (English or Italian). Open daily from 5.30pm. Friendly barman, live music and tasty bar food.

Beers: McEwans, Guinness, Bombardier and Charlie Wells as well as regular guest beers

Do: Speak to the friendly locals

Don't: Ask for a mojito
No. 2. Iter,
Via Sturzo 7, 37138

A newcomer to Verona's expanding pub scene, this epic birreria is located just a stone's throw from the stadium. A full range of draft beers

Beers: Guinness, Augustiner, Newcastle Brown Ale, Pilsner Urquell, Murphy's Red Ale, Stray Dog, Batersea

Do: Try a whisky, cocktail or gin

Don't: Complain about the massive foamy head on your pint!
No. 3. Terrazza Bar Al Ponte,
via Ponte Pietra 26

With just one beer on draft, la Terrazza is a bar rather than a pub. Pass through the bar to the rear and discover a beautiful terrace overlooking the river and Teatro Romano beyond. One of the best spots in town to enjoy a refreshing beer.

Beers: Fohrenburg

Do: Grab a terrace seat and enjoy the view.

Don't: Feed the birds
No. 4. Osteria al Borgho,
via Longhena 29/d

Just round the corner from the stadium, Osteria al Borgho is a great choice for a pre-match pint. More refined surroundings than some of the neighbouring bars and a fine selection of beer. Plenty of wines and spirits too and helpful and informative bar staff.

Beers: Murphy's Irish Stout, Thwaites Smooth, Moretti and Hofbrau

Do: Try a sneaky g + t.

Don't: Dance on the tables
No. 5. Osteria al Carega,
Vicolo Cadrega, 8

Although there's only one draft beer to choose from, Carega is a great place for a quiet drink and a light snack. Popular with grizzly locals and the occasional passing tourist, things liven up on Thursday nights when local bands squeeze in to this snug little local.

Beers: Staropramen

Do: Try the horse meatballs

Don't: Disturb the neighbours as you leave
